The 2025 First Nations Clean Energy Symposium invites you into a space of shared responsibility, strong conversations, and collaborative action.
We want this gathering to be focussed on action - it is a gathering to bring our minds and efforts together. We’re here to share insights, ask hard questions, explore new ideas, and map out practical steps that place First Nations at the centre of the energy transition.
KEY FOCUS AREAS
Supporting community controlled energy planning and decision making
Embedding First Nations direction, benefits and rights into project design and approval
Creating strong pathways for employment, business, and economic development
Exploring shared ownership models and equity-based partnerships
Learning from what’s worked and what hasn’t
Connecting policy, industry and community to implement the First Nations Clean Energy Strategy
Showing industry the value of First Nations leadership, participation and ownership
Across Australia, too many communities are still locked out of the clean energy conversation and opportunities and benefits of clean energy. Meanwhile, only a small number of First Nations–industry partnerships are under way and even fewer are delivering affordable, reliable power and economic outcomes where it's needed most. Risks and barriers to First Nations participation and benefit still exist.
But things are shifting…
Governments, investors and project proponents are recognising that working with First Nations is not just the right thing to do, it is essential for long-term success. Internationally, we see the impact: in Canada, Indigenous nations now own or co-own a growing number of renewable energy projects, with thousands already in operation.
TIME FOR ACTION
To meet this moment, we need more than ideas, we need momentum.
This Symposium is a chance to gather around the table, to build trust, to plan better, and to act smarter together. It's a chance to define the standards for partnership, consent, and community-led development, and to make sure clean energy works for our people, our Country, and generations to come.
A detailed program, as well as speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.
